How it all started...
On November 17th, 1907 twelve people meet in the Commercial Club rooms and called Reverend John Chandler to become the pastor of First Baptist Church. In the summer of 1908 the wooden church was constructed and they began meeting in the new building in the fall of 1908. In the spring of 1912 membership in the church had grown to eighty seven.
Expanding the vision...
By 1950 the church was growing rapidly and on July 6th 1952 there was a ground breaking ceremony for the new building at 6th and Washington. On Easter Sunday 1959 there were 616 people in attendance. The church was bursting at its seams.
Continued growth...
In October 1994 there was a ground breaking ceremony for a new facility on 27th and Hwy 395. The congregation moved to this location in 1997. In September 2005, construction started for a new worship center. In May 2008 the church changed its name to South Hills Church. In July 2008 we celebrated our 100 year anniversary.
