What We Believe
THE BIBLE. We believe the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired by God, without error in the
original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme
authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (II Tim 3:16-17)
THE TRINITY. We believe that there is one living and true God eternally existing in three persons, that they are equal in every divine perfection. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Old Testament tends to emphasize the unity of God (Deut. 6:4), while the New Testament amplifies the doctrine of the Trinity. (Matt. 28:18-20; II Cor. 13:14)
GOD THE FATHER. We believe in God the Father; an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Rom. 1:19-20; John 17:3)
JESUS CHRIST. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ; in His virgin conception, sinless life, in His substitutionary (in our place) death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, His perpetual intercession for His people, and His personal, visible return to earth. (Matt. 1:18-2:12; Heb. 1:6)
HOLY SPIRIT. We believe in the present helping, teaching, guiding ministry of the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer in Christ. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment; regenerates, sanctifies, and empowers all who believe in Jesus Christ.
(I Cor. 12:13; John 16:8)
SALVATION. We believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners, and hopelessly lost apart from those who turn (repent) from their sins and personally trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved to eternal life; the lost to eternal death. (John 5:24)
THE CHURCH. We believe the local New Testament church is a body of baptized believers whose Head and Lord is Christ and who voluntarily associate and meet together regularly to pray, worship, fellowship, serve, edify one another, teach the Word of God and proclaim the Gospel to the world. (Matt. 28:16-20; Acts 2:42)
COMMANDS. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has given two commands to the local church: baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. (Matt. 28:19; I Cor. 11:23-32)
ETERNAL SECURITY. We believe in the eternal security of all who have truly received the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. We believe our salvation is not of our own works, but a work of God, received by faith and held eternally by the Holy Spirit. (John 3:16, 36; 10:28-29, Jude 1, Romans 8:31-39, II Timothy 1:12)
CIVIL GOVERNMENT. We believe that the local New Testament Church, as a self-governing body, should be free from interference by any other ecclesiastical or political authority. Therefore, the church and state each have different functions. (Matt.22:15-21, Acts 5:29, 6:3-6, 13:2-4, 14:22-28)
LAST THINGS. We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal living of the saved, and the endless suffering of the unsaved.
(Acts 1:9-11; Rev. 20)
